Wake + Bake: The Power of Flower with Emily Eizen

Don’t ask us how, but somehow Emily Eizen has taken every pot-smoking teenage girl’s fantasy of a creative adulthood and made it reality. The queer artist, former budtender, and canna-advocate spends her days smoking, creating, and hustling hard across more mediums than we can even bear to list. Think: painting, sculpture, photography, modelling, and performance, to start.

But while her life on Instagram might look like a thrown-up ‘60s psychedelic wonderland (in a good way), she’s also a normal human being with a normal morning regimen. It just happens to be one that involves smoking flower before lunch.

Don’t be jealous! Instead, behold her conscious cannabis routine (and get some shopping tips while you’re at it).

Jerico Mandybur: How did you and cannabis meet?

Emily Eizen: In eighth grade, I went with my friend to the park to buy weed. They gave us some shake in a giant ziplock bag. I took one puff and burned my throat out and hated it. Then at 18, while I was briefly in school for political science, my roommate and now-bestfriend Izzy and I smoked in our pink-lit bathroom dorm. We would listen to sad songs so we named our bathroom “Marvins Room” Lol!

What time do you wake up?

I am working on changing my morning habits. I built up a bad habit of checking my phone the second I wake up. I found that this tends to lead to anxiety throughout the day. Cuddling with my girlfriend and my cat Peggy Sue and incorporating breathing exercises and stretching have been important in this process.

What does your daily cannabis routine look like?

I smoke all the time. I prefer flower over any form of consumption. I normally smoke sativa or hybrid varietals during the day and indica varietals at night. I use it in my creative process, hanging out with friends or alone. I’m always down to roll another. I also use Foria’s Basics tonic. It’s broad spectrum and can literally go into anything to make it CBD infused.

First product you reach for?

Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions purifying gel cleanser. I don’t show it a lot, but I have struggled with breakouts my whole life. That’s the face wash I recommend followed by vitamin E oil and a CBD toner by Taylor + Tess.

CBD skincare hack?

The CBD Primer by Kush Queen. Many mainstream makeup brands imply that they have CBD in them, but it's just hemp seed oil. That real CBD barrier between your skin and makeup is amazing.

Song that *actually* gets you up?

Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cash Shit” ft. Da Baby. How can you hear this song and not wanna shake your ass? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xe7OAFljOA

Morning self-care ritual?

I say five things that I’m grateful for. Having an attitude of gratitude helps keep positive energy around me. Then say five affirmations! Confidence is so important for self-care. Speaking or writing down goals and affirming that you will reach them is as equally valuable as the work we put in to achieve them.

Favorite thing to eat in the AM?

I love smoothies or acai bowls. I’ve never been a big breakfast person; I usually wait until lunch.

Everyday comfy outfit?

I absolutely love dressing up. I love wearing bright and funky outfits that look like they are from a 1970s party fantasy. If I could wear that every day I would. But then there’s a whole other side of me that enjoys wearing cargo pants, a graphic crop top, and Dr. Martens. None of my shirts are medium sized. They are either tiny and short or extremely oversized. I usually mix vintage styles with new trends. I love wearing chains, rings, and pocket chains. Finish off with some bold graphic liner and that's pretty much every day.

Vape, tincture, topical or edible?

All of the above! Like I said, I prefer smoking flower over all other methods, but Papa and Barkley’s hemp balm is a literal lifesaver when I have period cramps.

What are 5 emojis that describe mornings at your house?

Tell us about the products that keep you going all day long?

Urban Decay’s De-Slick setting spray is a must for preserving makeup all day. I can’t go a day without my Sharpstone grinder, Foria’s Awaken lube is so fun and sexy. Fenty lip gloss, because Rihanna. And last, but most importantly, WATER.
